Company

The people who wrote the physics run the company.

The framework the platform runs on was written in Suwon starting in 2006, we hold the exclusive license to it, and its author is our scientific founder.

The team

Three founders: the physics, the platform, and the business.

Two of them rebuilt the physics and wrote the platform that searches it. The third has spent twenty five years getting hardware made and sold, in Seoul, Shenzhen and San Jose. New rigor at one end and a long operating career at the other.

James Kim, Ph.D.

James Kim, Ph.D.

Scientific Founder · MEL Theory

James invented the physics SuperMatics runs on and co-built the platform that searches it, and he appears as J. Kim on both MEL papers. He did his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The framework was developed at Hyunsung TNC, the materials-science company in Suwon, and it is patent pending internationally.

Davis Rens

Davis Rens

Co-founder · Platform

Davis co-founded SuperMatics and built the platform with James. He took dual degrees in Chemistry and Physics at UC Berkeley in three years, with a 4.0 and Highest Honors from both of his colleges and both of his departments. He came here from Rigetti Computing, where he designed cryogenic cabling and rebuilt the thermal-management software, and both are still in production. He is a co-author on both MEL papers, arXiv 2512.03368 and 2601.14500.

  • 4.0 · two degrees · three years
  • Highest Honors, both colleges
  • Shipped at Rigetti Computing
  • Co-built the platform
  • Co-author, both MEL papers

Charlie Moon

Charlie Moon

Co-founder · Chief Strategy Officer

Charlie co-founded SuperMatics and owns the commercial side: IP architecture, licensing structure, strategic alliances, and the U.S. to Korea pipeline across SuperMatics and Hyunsung TNC. He ran companies for twenty-five years before this. A decade of IT ODM/OEM manufacturing out of Seoul and Shenzhen, then fifteen years as chief executive of KOPEX USA in San Jose. KOPEX is the cable-protection line ABB carries in its electrification portfolio: getting electrical hardware specified, certified and installed is the half of this business that does not happen in software.

  • Chief executive, 25 years
  • CEO, KOPEX USA · San Jose
  • Manufacturing · Seoul, Shenzhen
  • ICT · healthcare · deep tech
  • KDI School of Public Policy
