Meissner effect

A superconductor pushes magnetic fields out of itself, so a magnet floats above one. It is the definitive test: an ordinary conductor can fake zero resistance and cannot fake this.

Why meissner effect matters

It is what separates a superconductor from a very good conductor, so a measurement without it is not yet a claim of superconductivity.
